They have feasted on the men, women and children of Barrow without mercy and without pause. This is the world of which they have only dreamed. Endless night and an endless supply of blood and meat. This is how it is meant to be: humans, like bottles, waiting for their caps to be popped.

Geek Love by Katherine Dunn

Geek Love is the story of the Binewskis, a carny family whose mater- and paterfamilias set out–with the help of amphetamine, arsenic, and radioisotopes–to breed their own exhibit of human oddities. There’s Arturo the Aquaboy, who has flippers for limbs and a megalomaniac ambition worthy of Genghis Khan … Iphy and Elly, the lissome Siamese twins … albino hunchback Oly, and the outwardly normal Chick, whose mysterious gifts make him the family’s most precious–and dangerous–asset.

I loved this book!!! I started reading it because it was recommended by one of the booktubers that I watch, but it is also in the most disturbing book list on Goodreads. There are some parts that are somewhat disturbing but that’s what I loved about it. Some of the characters really pissed me off but it was a really enjoyable book. I definitely recommend it, especially if you like sideshow performers and carnivals. Btw I couldn’t just pick one picture :)

Rating: 5/5
